The Year of “Why Not”

Most people fail at their New Year’s resolution because they go into the new year with nothing but expectation that the new year holds something they did not possess in the previous year. We walk in empty handed expecting something to magically fulfill us.

This year I would like to try something different. With the time left in 2018 I am going to acquire the tools that will help me progress in my New Year’s resolution, getting a running start.
Keys to getting a running start

1. Never stop praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
When is it improper to consult with God? The spirit of God will lead us into all truth but if the line of communication is not open it shuts down the possibilities of the “exceedingly and abundantly above all we can “ask or imagine” if we never get to the ask. This is not a one-sided conversation. If you stay down long enough the spirit of God will answer you.
2. Get in the word.
Joshua 1:8 God charges Joshua saying “study this book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so that you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only the will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
3. Get around like minded people.
Hebrews 10:24-25 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” There is great success when two or more agree and get together. Jesus declares “for where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

These things come with the development of habits and consistency. One thing I have learned about God is that he will not take you where you do not want to go. He will never override your will. He will not act independently of you on your behalf unless he is invited.  The only way that I can pursue the things that God has for me is that I must have a strong desire for him. Instead of desiring the blessing so badly, I want to desire the one who blesses.

What I have discovered in times pass is that after receiving a word from God, I chased the visions and forgot the one who would give me the steps to complete it. This got me no where really fast.

Enter failure. Enter the will to not try again. Not this time! This time after receiving the vision I am going to go before God and ask what type of person I need to become to possess the promise. I want to be able to uphold it with a righteous standard that will allow God to sustain me when it comes.

For me God has named the new year “the year of why not”. Why not enjoy God? Why not pursue the passions God has placed in me? Why not go further than that which is expected of me. Why not pursue loving more, being more generous, spending time with people I love? Why not pursue the joy of the Lord where I find my strength? Why not kick the door down to limitations and hopelessness? There are many things that I have allowed to stop me from going for where I really want to be. This time the only thing that will set the focus for what I pursue is God’s word and his holy spirit.

Wielding Weapons: Skilled at Spiritual Warfare

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (MSG)

The world is unprincipled. It’s dog-eat-dog out there! The world doesn’t fight fair. But we don’t live or fight our battles that way—never have and never will. The tools of our trade aren’t for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.

I have gotten to the place where I am like, “Lord what is going on!” My soul is unrested and I am feeling exposed and on the defense. Things that used to come easy are now the areas where opposition is cropping up. I used to be able to blend in with the crowd, but now I feel like I am being called out into a battle.

May I submit to you that it is time for war in the spirit. There is a place called worship where our weapons are sharpened and forged. There is a stance called praise where our foundation is established and we are able to stand when hell is literally breaking loose all around us.

We are not ignorant of Satan’s devices. Yes he may be loud, but it only takes the stone of the word to knock him down and the sword of it’s truth to cut his head off. We even keep the back up stones for his minions. We don’t mind going to battle so as long as in the process our loved ones are set free, our lives are producing greatness, and we are walking in the fullness of who God has created us to be.

There are too many Goliath’s staring us down, taunting us constantly. We can either stand in fear and wonder what we will do or we can go down to the brook with the determination that,” if God be for me who can be against me.” In 1 Samuel 17 David goes to prepare himself for battle, deciding that today is the day we end this mockery of God and his people. David grabbed five smooth stones from the brook. To me, the stones each represented a word from God, a guarantee that he was on David’s side.

The stone of knowing “all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord.”(Romans 8:28)
The stone of “no weapon formed against me shall prosper.”(Isiah 54:17)
The stone of “my help comes from the lord, the maker of heaven and earth”(Psalm 121)
The stone of “my God can do immeasurably more than I could ever ask, think, or imagine.”(Ephesians 3:20)

The word of God is a sword that when used correctly will blast through EVERY issue life tries to throw at us.

Reasons to Fight

Think of what is at stake. Is it worth doing nothing, hoping something will happen?

May I submit to you that life is not a game of chance, but action and reactions, choices and consequences. We can not afford to be using faulty weapons, weapons with no substance.

I choose to fight because if I don’t I will always find myself being pushed over every time I try and go towards what God has called me to. We can not afford to go uncovered for a moment. Some attacks come because the enemy knows where the weakness are with our weapons. Satan is a bully and he goes for those who are the weakest. He doesn’t want to mess with the one who knows how to wield her weapon.

The one thing he will try to do is talk you out of using them. He will speak to your mind telling you your weapons are not enough. That they are not effective if they are not producing at the rate of someone else’s. If he can get to your mind he will try to corrupt it until you are no longer able to function. This is why the bible is constantly talking about renewing our minds and keeping God’s word before us daily.

Dear friends, I just want to encourage you to not back down from the challenges of life and know that the Greater One is on the inside of you and that if He is for you, nothing can stand against you. You are a winner, its up to you to last until the end of the battle to see that your living is not in vain.

The Power of Simple: Waiting Well

In the moments after God has made you a promise you start well excited about it and set out to see it happen. More time passes, and you have the word but no evidence of it being fulfilled. It is tempting to help God out or simply swing things so that they will turn in your favor. There are times when I get antsy in expectation and I keep checking everywhere I think the answer may be. Somewhere in hearing of the promise I forgot that God is the one who works the will and the do for his good pleasure. My input was never needed, only my willingness to obey.

This is what my prayers sound like sometimes.

God: Tracina just write. Tracina just study.

Me: But God I really would like to do something important. Maybe I could…

God: Tracina just write. Tracina just study.

Me: But God I think I would really like to do…

God: (Silence)

Saul found out the hard way that we cannot help God along and the consequences for him are summed up in him losing the anointing God placed on his life.

Then Samuel said, Do you think all God wants are sacrifices— empty rituals just for show? He wants you to listen to him! Plain listening is the thing, not staging a lavish religious production. Not doing what God tells you is far worse than fooling around in the occult. Getting self-important around God is far worse than making deals with your dead ancestors. Because you said No to God ’s command, he says No to your kingship.
1 Samuel 15:22‭-‬23 MSG

In the moment  what he was doing seemed to be a noble sacrifice but because he did not wait well and listen to God, Saul forfeited the blessing of God over his life.

I do get to a place when I lack understanding. I often get to the place where I have no clue what to do next. I asked God why I have to come this way and his response was, “I can not work with you when you think you know the way. You told me I was Lord over your life and that my way is better. You have to get to a place where you are not sure so that you can see that I am who I say I am and that my strength is made perfect in your weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) To this I can only respond with “ouch” and “yes Lord.”

I notice in this scripture and in my case that God did not tell me to do anything I am not capable of. I have to get to a place that even when the instructions make absolutely no sense I can still “trust in the Lord with all of my heart and lean not unto my own understanding.”  From there “he will direct my paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Resist the temptation to help God along. Don’t take for granted your day to day. For me this season in my life is called the middle where everything I do seems insignificant in the natural, but in the spirit I am moving mountains of adversity and building an unshakeable foundation. The middle prepares me. The middle sharpens me. The middle is where I find out what needs to go and what needs to stay for me to finish strong. Don’t despise the middle. The top is great, but the climb is really the part we can be proud of. It is where we find out just what the power of God on the inside of us is capable of.
