When I first joined a church I always wondered why people had their hands lifted. It always seems strange until I started to understand the concept of praise. Praise is a heart position that invites God in to commune with us.
The truth of the matter is we need God. I heard God say in the spirit that praise sets the table. We lift our hand to receive from him what we need and when we praise the table is set and makes room for him. Sometimes trouble comes and our table gets cluttered with so many things that there is no room for God. Things that are on my table sometimes are worry, doubt, and fear. I clear it off with the word when I remember:
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:7)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5,6)
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)
When I praise I am in remembrance of what he has done in the past and in praising I know that he is a God who is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. Always consistent, always providing, always loving. Let praise set the table for you to receive what God is doing for you in this day. Praise makes room for God.
He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen. (Deuteronomy 10:21)
