Proof that feelings can be destructive…
“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God , search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.” Jeremiah 17:9-10
I find myself in my feelings a lot when it comes to the things of God (one who operates outside of my senses). His commands aren’t based on how I feel at any moment because to move in Him only requires obedience.
You have to control your feelings and not let them control you!
Feelings have their place. They give us self-awareness, self-consiousness, and the ability to feel empathy. But the key word here, let us not miss it, is self. Self caters to the flesh.
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Romans 8:7 ESV
Above all else the best way to combat feelings is to trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV
